Jefferson Metropolitan Housing Authority

The Jefferson Metropolitan Housing Authority (JMHA) is a political subdivision of the State of Ohio and was created by authority of the Ohio Revised Code. JMHA serves Jefferson County and was created in 1958. It is governed by a five member Board of Commissioners. Our Board Members serve five year terms upon appointment by local elected officials. The JMHA Board of Commissioners meet monthly on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the JFK Community Room located at 815 N. 6th Ave., Steubenville, OH 43952.

JMHA operates and administers 662 units of Public Housing and administers 818 Housing Choice Vouchers.

PROGRAM

Housing Choice Voucher

The housing choice voucher program is the federal government's major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses and apartments.

Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single-family houses to high rise apartments for elderly families.
